Karl Weiland LICSW - Couples Counseling by
Creating and Maintaining a Relationship

I find that even when I meet with an individual for counseling the theme is often about relationships--seeking one, maintaining one, or whether to leave one.  By nature we desire a committed relationship.  Although the source of great joy, pleasure and comfort, a relationship can often be challenging and stressful.

In my work with couples I facilitate conversations which increase understanding of one another, identify the factors which deepen or destroy a relationship, and clarify the couple's vision of a shared future.  We work with both expectations for change and the need for acceptance.

Taking the Next Step

Because relationships are so important and so complicated, couples often find they need to involve a third party.  Sometimes a friend or family member can be helpful.  When this is not available, or not helpful enough, it may be time to seek professional help.  Sometimes the couple agree to seek help together; other times one member simply agrees to go along with the suggestion of the other to consult a professional.
